CHURCH TRUTHS QUESTION 19
QUESTION 19: Is buying a lotto ticket gambling?
ANSWER: First letís consider what the courts consider gambling. It says any betting, playing bingo, lotto tickets, playing games or betting for money.
Space would not allow me to show you all the harm done in gambling. Here are some statistics from James Dobson in 1999
* Americans gamble more money each year than they spend on groceries
* In Mississippi more money is spent on betting than on all retail sales combined.
* 85% of young people have already become gamblers.
* Usually the people who gamble the most are the people who can afford it the least: the poor and the elderly.
Any game of chance for gain was legally wrong. It was only a few years that Bingo was legalized.
I am amazed at the media announcing some people that have won millions of dollars on a lotto ticket. They never report the millions of poor losers, who waste their money hoping to get rich quick.
Now the bible says nothing about gambling neither does to say anything about using illegal drugs, or rape. But it teaches against those things. Here is a verse, Rom. 12:17 Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 2Co 8:21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
I would ask you this, is it honest to take by chance what others have lost without working or paying for it? There are drug, alcohol and gambling addicts being treated by our government systems; should a Christian be a part of promoting this business of lotto that is robbing the poor people.? To win, has all the appearance of a dishonest gain at the expense of others. Is it a good Christian testimony to the unsaved? Ask them and see what they say?
Lotto, bingo, etc. is an addiction. People will waste their time and money and neglect their home duties to practice it. Should a Christianís will be under those types of addictions.?
Legalize gambling is a dishonest business that tempts people in order to extract money from them. Needless to say a Christian should not be supporting dishonesty.
If you are not a Christian then it only matter that what you do wrong you will face God in judgment for in a future day. You can be saved from that judgment because Christ has been judged for our sins and through putting your faith in Him you can be forgiven Acts 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
