FALSE DOCTRINE QUESTION 5

QUESTION 5:
Do you believe in generational curses? I was raised in a home where there was witchcraft. Do you think that is why I deal with the same sin each time I backslide? ANSWER:
There is some evidence from the Bible that the results of sins in one generation are passed on to others. Here are a couple of verses: Exodus 17:16, "For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation." Again, in Exodus 20:5, "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;" However, I would doubt that to be so in your case, unless you are willfully involved in witchcraft.

If you are saved then your problem is likely environmental influence. You are likely spending time in circumstances that incite you to fall into sin. "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." 1 Corinthians 10:13. Notice the words "taken you," this seems to be saying that the temptation comes to you and that you do not go to it. The next verse is the application in 1 Corinthians 10:14, "Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry." If you run TO temptation, it will get you, but if you run FROM it, you will find a way of escape.

Stay away from anything and anybody that causes you to sense a temptation to do evil. God has provided victory for all those in Christ. "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?" 1 John 5:4-5.
