How does one recognize the doctrines of devils today?

ANSWER: The phrase “doctrines of devils [demons]”is found in 1 Timothy 4:1, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” The “latter times” referred to are the days in which we are now living. In context the doctrines ‘of’ devils could be “about or by” demons. In Revelation 16:14 we read, “For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles...” It would appear that this verse refers to demons working miracles through men. Again, in Revelation 13:13-14 it says, “And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles.” Demonism can be found everywhere today, even in so called Christian circles. Much of the Charismatic Movement of the past 100 years has displayed the same characteristics as voodooism and witchcraft.
The Devil himself is seen in the Scriptures in a threefold way: a liar, a deceiver and an angel of light. He approached the human race as a serpent, (cf. Genesis 3:1). He was cunning and deceitfully with Eve and Adam. Over the years he has worked as a ‘lion’ seeking to devour believers, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). He is now working as an angel of light, “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:13-14). He stands in the pulpits of many churches today.
This “doctrine of demons” referred to in 1 Timothy 4:1 can be further recognized by three aspects; (1) “speaking lies in hypocrisy” (2) “forbidding to marry” and (3) “abstain from meats” (cf. 1 Timothy 4:2-3). Christians today with discernment should be able to recognize similar traits in the church systems of modern men. Much of present day Christendom came out of paganism.
Beware of modern teachers who use the “smoke screen” of a good statement of faith to speak lies. The ‘lie’ which the devil wants you to believe is in regard to being saved. He will tell you that you must be good and support the church: that being baptized is necessary and that you must ‘live’ salvation in order to get or keep it. Do not believe these lies! To be saved, you must be born again (cf. John 3:7) You must repent or perish (cf. Luke 13:3) You must trust Christ completely (cf. Acts 16:31).
Have you repented? Have you trusted Christ? This is the ONLY way to be born again, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:” (John 3:36).
