QUESTION 77 What are the chances of the world coming to its end next year (2012) according to the bible?

ANSWER: I assume that you have the Mayan Calendar prediction in view.  I don’t know a lot about it but I do understand that they say there will be a resetting of some things, but they do not predict the end of the world.

The would-be modern Bible prophets are the ones that are wrongly associating this with the Bible.  They take things mentioned in the Bible like earthquakes, the moon being turned in blood, stars falling from heaven and the sun being darkened and likens it with the Mayan Calendar and say that it is the end of the world. Remember when the century turn from 1999-2000 some thought the world would end. Nothing happened. It will be the same after 2012 if the Lord doesn’t come before.

First, let me say the world as a planet will never end. Ps 104:5 Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.  Eccl. 1:4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

When Jesus was asked in Matt 24:3 about the end of the world, the word ‘world’ means the ‘age.’ An age is  a period of time in which He is dealing with things.

We are living in a period of time called the dispensation of grace. (Eph. 3: 2) God in His mercy and grace is calling to whosoever may come and take the water of life freely (Rev 22:17) will be saved.  He only knows when the true church will be complete and after that He will come.

There have been many predictions and date settings of the coming of the Lord, and all have come and gone, and so will this one.

The coming of the Lord for the church could happen at any moment. There are no signs mentioned in the Bible about the rapture. In this,  the Lord comes from the third heaven, where he now is, down to the first heaven over the earth and all believers will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. (1 Thes. 4:16,17)

As to the Lord coming back to earth no man knows when, Mt 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Are you ready?  You are if you have trusted Christ completely to save you from your sins.  Are you trusting Him only?   And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.  Acts 16:31 What if He should come today and your are not saved?
