I have lived a pretty good life; am I condemned?
Among the many ways man thinks he can get into heaven, this is probably the most popular. The Bible says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”(Proverbs. 14:12). To believe that living a good life will get you into heaven is to totally disregard what Jesus said in John 3:3, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
There are two things a person needs to get to heaven:
FIRST, you need forgiveness of all your sins. Living a very good life is all right, but there are sins that hinder you from getting into heaven. Revelation 21:27 says, nothing that defiles that holy city will ever enter it. And in Romans 3:10, we read “As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one:” The Bible is very clear that “without the shedding of blood there is no remission” (Hebrews. 9:22.). Since the “wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23) the sinner must die, or somebody must die on his behalf. That is what Christ has done: You get the benefit of it when you realize your sins will keep you out of heaven and you trust completely, in what Christ has done, for forgiveness of your sins, “   that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:43).
SECOND, you need eternal life in order to live there forever, that is, “Ye must be born again” (John 3:7). All life begins with a birth. Living a pretty good life will not get you either of these two things that are necessary to enter heaven.
With regard to condemnation, you are condemned already! “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:18). Believing about Him is not enough, you must fully trust Him as your Saviour from sin. The moment you do that you are born again and have eternal life; “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him”(John 3:36).
Don’t trust in yourself and what you are doing, but take all your trust out of everything else and put it all in Christ. Do it and be saved today!
